Diary 1 : Article

I have written the article that will be going in the double page spread of my magazine. It is an interview with DJ AJ whom is one of my colleges on the media course. I have at the bottom the fun facts section to put at the side of the article with pictures relevant to the facts.

 Media Interview

So DJ AJ your new album ‘Thunder Bolt’ is being released next week, what can we expect?

You know, with this album. It took me ages to make, like I have been picking up different samples and beats from different shows in the past and its just a collaboration of up beat and raw sounds that will make crowds go crazy, which I hope will happen (laughs). But yeah with singles ‘Drop The Base’ and ‘Thunder’ they were just a taste of what’s on the album. I have saved some of the best songs for last trust me.

You have also been touring, how’s that going?

Yeah its been mint! Like a great experience, I have been everywhere from L.A to Tokyo and the crowds have been awesome. At the Toronto concert I went crowd surfing, which was so crazy, but the security had to pull me out of the crowds at the front, which was funny. And the mosh pits have been mental like everyone is possessed or something haha but seriously though, the shows are unreal. The strobe lights the technicians set up are crazy and the huge woofer speakers are on each corner of the rooms we play in so everyone hears it, and the sound that comes out of them is like breath taking.

Have your fans at the concerts?

Yeah, I always try and get to see a many as I can at each concert after the shows and sign pictures and stuff. Some of the gifts I get are incredible. Like someone got me a Rolex watch! She insisted me on having it and I was grateful, I got pictures with her and followed her on twitter and tweeted her saying thank-you, which was so lovely of her.

What’s the strangest things you have had to sign then?

(Laughs) Well I do get loads of people asking for like body signatures such as like there backs, arms and like girls always ask for there chests so I might as well. Some guys have asked for me to sign their crotches but I happily declined haha.

Here at DexMag, a little birdy told me that you might be collaborating with Tiesto in the new album?

(Smiles) I remember when I was young going to Tiesto concerts and everyone like worshiped him you know. (Pauses) But yeah you’ll just have to wait and see when the album comes out. It’s definitely been surreal for me.

So as a Music Artist who have been your main influences?

I have always listened to like a wide range of music when I was younger and even now.  I was bang into my rap and R&B when I was younger so I don’t really understand how I got here haha.  But yeah probably my main influences to start with the DJ’ing where obviously Tiesto and other ones such as Steve Aoki, Rusko, Nero and others but they were probably my favorite ones. I was obsessed with Nero’s ‘Welcome Reality’ album and I would listen to it non-stop. It was like epic film music, I always thought it would be good for a movie, I thinks that what they intended or something so yeah they were a confident influence on my music.

At Tomorrow Land Festival you were playing along side the likes of Nero and Rusko that defiantly must have been surreal for you.

Oh my God yeah it was crazy! Not gonna lie, I was a little bit star struck seeing them backstage and that, but they were really lovely to me and said my work was good which is like the best thing I could ever hear. It was like stepping into one of my dreams as a kid just being in a room with them all. I mean, I still can’t believe I got picked to be one of the acts for Tomorrow land and it was a year ago!

I love the music video for your single ‘Thunder’ so much! It’s gone massive on youtube with over 100 million views, what was it like filming it?

Or thank you! And I know its ridiculous but I’m really pleased it did because the director worked so hard on it so I’m pleased it went big. The filming was hard work but it was worth it. The Part with me floating above the crowds like actually happened and it was difficult. People keep saying ‘oh that was CGI or something’ and I’m like nope (laugh). I did have a stunt double as well who jumped off the helicopter at the begging so hats off to her.

So you’re a bit of an adrenaline junkie?

Definitely haha. I loved a good adrenaline rush and pushing myself to the limit. Its what I strive to achieve when I make music as well so its just something that I enjoy.

Ok, final question. In three words can you describe your album?

Erm, Fun, Strong and Loud.  (Smiles)
