Magazine Front Cover Comparisons
- Image Position: The First comparison magazine model is a very similar pose, eye line and distance as my model. With the Second magazine comparison, although there are two models. the Eye-line and distance from the camera is also similar to the model on the front of my rough cut. each magazine has shots of the model from just under the wait up and with all models pretty much in the middle of the magazines.
- Layout: The layout of the tex going down the side of the second magazine is similar to the text going down the side of mine. also the use of having text on either side is applied in the first magazine, this is also used on my magazine cover. The use of the name of the model over the front of them is used in rough cut comparison #1 as well as on the front of mine.
- Text to Image ratio: With all magazines there is a more image to text ratio on the covers. With my cover I think there is to little text in comparison to the balanced amount which is normally used in professional magazine covers. I have a little less text than each magazine comparrisons.
- Locations: All images of models on the magazine covers where taken in studios with white backdrops for the models to stand in front of.
- Costume & Props: With my original model not able to make the photo shoot, the replacement model that is used on the front cover had to use what she had. With the use of the purple scarf, I had to use the colours to my advantage when making the magazine products by selecting different shade of the purple in the scarf. The comparison magazines had used certain costumes to help make the cover look better. for example with comparison #1, she is where a full balck suit which matches the minimalist look of the cover. and with the second cover, the colours that both models are wearing are used in the colours of the font on the cover like on the front of mine.
- Lighting: all models on the magazines have studio lighting on them from left and right. Then edited the colour contrast and so fourth to make the picture what it looks like on the front cover. My picture is layered and edited to give a electro, happy feel to it which suite the genre of the magazine.
- Use Of colour: Colour is persistent throughout my products and matches the picture also. On the comparison over you can see this is also done with the colours from the pictures. All of the covers have a basis of 3 colours used in the fonts and the pictures.
- Genres: Like comparison #2 the colours on the front of mine are bright and strong which match the upbeat electronic music genre. Also the picture is edited to have a punk, fun feel to it which implies the fun upbeat genre of music that the magazine represents. The colours of the clothes on comparison #2 are bright and fun like the purple scarf on the my model.
- Language: The language is short snappy and lures people in to read the articles. such as 'stars of rave choose their all time hero' and 'Ibzas best clubs, all the pics and action'. They both have something that the target audience will want to read. The use of non-standard grammar also help to relate to the target audience.
- Font Choice: The fonts used are bold and strong so that the customer can see on the shelf rack where the magazine are kept in stores and be lured to that product. I have used bold strong fonts on my magazine to do this just like the comparisons.

Contents Page Comparisons
- Image Composition: (Haven't put pictures in yet)
- Layout: The layout is similar to the comparison magazines as they both have the writing on one side and the larger pictures on the other. Both magazine have contents at the top and a list that goes down of interesting stuff in the magazine.
- Text to image ratio: in all magazine the is a much bigger picture ratio to writing. with my magazine i decided to go along this route because the use of pictures means that when a customer is contemplating buying the magazine, they will flip to the contents and see different images of music artists they may know and then proceed to buy the magazine out of interest.
- Location: All the pictures used are in different locations. This gives the contents more colour and range, rather than having all white backdrops in every photo. It can also provide the colours to help make the genre of the magazine more prominent. all the comparison magazines have a nightlife/ bright lights feel to the pictures witch relates to night clubs and electronic music and that genre and lifestyle.
- Costume: The costumes used are certain styles of indie clothing that match the electronic music genre but they are also everyday wear. this relates to the target audeince and gives them something to use as a basis for their fashion styles. all the magazine have this type of look in them
- Lighting: the lighting is quite dark and mysterious with different shaded of colours lighting the models in the contents pages. this sub consciously brings ideas of places such as nightclubs where you will hear the electronic music genre for example in rough cut comparison #1 the 2 bottom pictures are of DJ's in nightclubs and the pictures are quite dark.
- Use of Colour: all magazine contents have kept the use of the house colours on the front pages of the magazines. this is done to keep a flow to the magazine.
- Genre: again the dark city life look of the pictures and the black background implies the electronic music genre in the contents pages of the comparison contents pages.
- Language: the language used in my magazine contents is again the same as the front cover and is used to make the customer want to read the articles. With the use of non standard grammar gives a young down to earth feel to the magazine which fits in with the target audience. this also is used in the comparison contents pages.
- Font: the font choices for the content pages are still strong and bold and the use of the house style for the title of the magazine is used in all the contents pages. this is compares well with my contents page.

Double Page Spread Comparison
- Image Composition: (haven't put picture in yet)
- Layout: The layout if fairly similar to the other magazines. With the picture of the left and the writing on right. But my title starts on the left hand page and moves on to the right hand page.
- Text to Image Ratio: The images on the professional double page spreads are much bigger than the space i have left for my image. I should have left more of a space for a big image to give maybe a more professional look.
- Use of Location: the second magazine cover is shot in a studio and the first could have been anywhere so there is a mixture of image types used for the double page spreads.
- Costume and props: All the costumes used on the models are done to make the magazine stand out with its genre of music. for example with the second double page spread. the group of lads are wearing indie clothing which goes well with the indie genre of the magazine.
- Lighting: all picture of use of lighting from either side of the model to give the full effect of a professional photo to make the artist look more professional.
- Use of Colour: With my double page spread i have kept with the house colours of that edition of my magazine with the purples to again give the flow to the magazine and make it go well together. on the professional pages, the use of minimalist black and whites again makes it more professional and also goes well with any colours so will go with the house colours of the magazine.
- Genres: the magazine have looks about them to make them look like the genre they match. for example, the 1st double page spread has a clean look to it which goes well with the pop music genre. the second has a dirty different look to it which goes well with the indie genre and makes it look more layer back but still professional. the comparison of my magazine gives the strong purple colours to make it bright and strong which goes well with the electronic music genre.
- Language: the languages of the articles are laid back and easy to read for the different readers of the magazine. with my interview, i ask questions that my target audience would want to ask the music artist and then i have made sure that the artist replies are strong and give a lot of interesting information that the target read will want to read. this goes for the other double page spreads as they give information on the favourite music artists of those genres.
- Font Choice: the font choice for the double page spread in the titles needs to be bigger to relate with the professional double page spreads. the double page spreads have strong bold fonts to introduce the article and then an easy to read font for the whole article itself.
